Zeolites are naturally occurring crystalline minerals commonly found in rock deposits and old ocean and lake beds. These microporous inorganic mineral compounds are formed by the crystallization of volcanic lava and ash when they come in contact with fresh or salt water over millions of years.

More About Zeolite

There are specialized deposits of zeolite the world over. They vary by their composition of compounds. There are three main kinds, spiculate, sheet, or crystalline zeolite. Medical use is from crystalline zeolite that contains high quantities of the mineral clinoptilolite. The structure of Clinoptilolite made of a porous silicon oxide and aluminosilicate matrix that is very stable and practically indestructible.

Zeolite is one of the few negatively charged minerals in nature. Zeolites are natural volcanic minerals with a unique, complex crystalline structure. The honeycomb framework of cavities and channels (like cages) is negatively charged and small enough to work at the cellular level, trapping positively charged heavy metals and toxins by cation exchange, it's negative charge locking with the positively charged heavy metals and toxins, and locking them into its framework. After this, they are safely and quickly removed from your body within 7 hours.

In August of 2005, Natural Cellular Defense was brought to the marketplace by Waiora International. The patent is owned by the Chairman of the Waiora Scientific Advisory Board, Rik Deitsch. Rik is a biochemist who works with preventative medicine, and is the head of the Natural Cellular Defense project.

What Makes Zeolite So Valuable?

Its extremely hard, microporous, honeycomb type of structure is permeated by ducts and cavities throughout. These caves or channels are openings where either minerals or heavy metals can be bound. The silicon building block is electrically neutral, but the aluminum building block carries a negative charge, creating charged sites throughout the entire crystal structure, and much like a magnet attracts positively charged particle to itself.

For charge stability, a zeolite attracts and carries positively charged ions such as calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, and iron, within it to balance out the negative charge. Positively charged ions outside the zeolite structure, such as heavy metals, free radicals, and viral sub-particles, can also enter the porous zeolite by simply exchanging places with another less-tightly bound ion that's already inside.

This exchange of one particle for another that has a greater affinity with the zeolite is what gives the compound it detoxifying properties. And because liquid zeolite comes pre-activated with health promoting ions like calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium, it provides a two for one benefit. The exchange removes heavy metals and toxins from the body and replaces them with essential nutrients.

Quality Control

J: Many of our distributors wish to know more about how the zeolite is mined. What environmental impact does the mining have?

R: Zeolites are formed in areas where there was volcanic activity several thousand years previously. The zeolite is hand-mined, causing no damage to the surrounding environment.

J: Who works these mines? Is it underground or surface strip mining? How are the workers paid and treated? Does Waiora have anything to do with this side of the vertical organization? If not, who does?

R: Neither Waiora nor any of my companies controls the activity at the mines. These are US sites and are governed by US labor laws.

J: Are the workers exposed to any health and/or safety risks as the result of their mining activities?

R: These sites are specific for the sheet-like zeolites which are considered to be completely safe even when inhaled. If anything, I would guess that these miners would be healthier because of their exposure to this material.

J: How is the mined material shipped to the factory where the Natural Cellular Defense is created. Who is responsible for this activity?

R: The zeolite is micronized at the mine site (pulverized to a fine powder and filtered through a fine mesh screen). It is then placed in barrels and transported to our manufacturer.

J: Why is there a taste difference from one batch to another? You claim that quality control systems are in place, and you are very comfortable with them. How often do you inspect the manufacturing facility to be assured that these quality control systems are managed effectively and consistently? What are these quality control systems that you refer to, which you are so comfortable with?

R: The manufacturing facility itself is certified to be GMP-compliant (current-Good Manufacturing Practices) by the FDA. GMP is an FDA term for the Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QA/QC) procedures that are standard in the facility. This also includes training of the personnel, storage of materials and microanalysis of the product. Our QA/QC includes a prescreening of the raw material on delivery. It is then processed as outlined in the patent (heated in Acetic acid (vinegar) solution for five hours and then cooled over two days. The precipitate is then removed, and the finished product is ready for bottling). The whole process takes approximately five days.

Some of the solution from each and every batch is sent for analysis. We conduct standardization using Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) and High-performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Every batch is also sent through a detailed microanalysis, where the product is evaluated for any sort of contamination (bacterial, molds, spores, etc.). Finally, some bottles from every batch are retained so that these can be tested on a future date if it becomes necessary. I have a representative from my Company that inspects the manufacturing facility and all of their batch records at least once per month. We have added an organoleptic (smell and taste) protocol to the quality control of the product. The bottle we use was carefully chosen for its molecular stability (it does not off-gas as many plastics do).

We have recently discovered that at temperatures over 120 F, the bottle releases microscopic amounts of gas that cause a slight change in taste and smell, but no change in the product itself. The amounts are minuscule and not harmful to us.
