So whose fault is it? I blame the industrial production methods that have been gradually taking over our food processing industry. It starts with government subsidized large scale farming of cereal plants – wheat, corn and soy – on overly fertilized but under mineralized soils. The top prize goes to the packaged foods that are so rich in addictive flavors and stimulants, that you stand no chance to resist. Once you become addicted, it is nearly impossible to break free.

The biggest trap of all is the “convenience food” and “fast food”. It is now cheaper to eat at a fast food restaurant than to make a wholesome meal at home. Probably because of the scale of production, the industrial producers can make a “meal” for less than you could. Today food is less expensive than it ever was, but unfortunately you are getting exactly what you are paying for. Not much in the way of REAL nutrition.

All of your nerve impulses and all your cellular function is powered by electrolytic exchanges. One of them is called sodium-potassium pump, which involves sodium on the outside and potassium on the inside of the cell. That is the mechanism that moves nutrients in and toxins out of your cells.

The other major nutrient pair I mentioned in the past, magnesium and calcium, controls the autonomic nervous system, the major switching system between high stress fight-flight vs relaxation, digestion and rebuilding.

Minerals are needed and sodium is important. Salt deficiency is very common, especially in people who eat meat. When a baby is in the womb, the amniotic fluid it floats in has the same salinity as your tears, 0.9% solution of salt in water. If we would like to create a similar environment that is calming physically and emotionally, one that will help draw toxins out, we need to create the 0.9% solution. That means a kilo of salt in a 25 gallon bathtub.  We have to be “brave” and use the whole $20 box of salt on a single bath.
