Processed Cheese
Recently I was talking to a colleague of mine and we were discussing the diet of the average person. It’s interesting to look at the statistics from the US Department of Agriculture and see what most people eat. High on the list is cow’s milk, followed by processed cheese and white bread. Soda pop is never more than a few rungs lower on the list. To a health conscious person this list is downright frightening.
Speaking of cheese, it brings to mind a story once told to me about how processed cheese was invented during the World War. The story goes that they needed food that they could give to their soldiers that wouldn’t go bad for a long time, since there is no refrigeration on the battlefield. A cheese maker invented processed cheese and brought it to the generals claiming it would not go bad over for weeks. The general, of course, didn’t believe him and put the cheese on a radiator for two or three days and was astonished to find the cheese didn’t go bad.
This leads one to speculate about just what the cheese maker did to the cheese, and whether something that doesn’t spoil will be able to provide you with any source of nutrients. The point I am trying to make: if it does not decompose quickly at room temperature, there must be no active enzymes in it, and it will not digest inside of you either.
