Bacteria and Flora

Your intestine is populated by little creatures, bacteria, and protozoa. There ought to be certain ratios that keep things working well, in balance. It’s the balance between the beneficial flora, the right guys and the wrong guys. The intestinal flora are supposed to manage the extraction of nutrients from the food that is coming through the intestine. The balance is fairly resilient, but years of abuse and neglect can damage it. Think of your lawn – it can take a lot of abuse, but it can be overcome by droughts or by concentrated pet urine. And the villi in your intestine are a lot like your lawn. If they get worn down by too much traffic, they will be prone to letting through under-digested food and parasitic organisms.

When the flora gets out of balance, it can become dysfunctional. A condition called dysbiosis can develop. When you get dysbiosis, your bowel movements become irregular. You either get constipation, chronic constipation, or you get chronic diarrhea, depending on which way the damage goes. If you drink chlorinated water, the chlorine that’s added to your drinking water is added there to kill bacteria. When you drink it, it kills the bacteria inside of you.

This can lead to a number of problems with digestion. We have awesome tools to restore bowel flora.
