Metabolic Stress

One of my jobs as a health food nut is to advise people how to get off foods that hurt their bodies. It’s easy to come up with the definitions for the untouchables:

Nothing fizzy (as is carbonated drinks). Anything sold in an aluminum can. Anything with refined sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Get rid of potatoes. Starch. Cakes and pastries. It may take you three weeks to wean yourself off the carbs and convince your body that it needs to burn fat for energy, but once you make the switch, you will be feeling so much better.

Being overweight is such a vicious cycle. You feel hungry. You eat carbs, mainly empty calories. Your body asked for nutrients, but you gave it empty calories. It does not take long before the body is asking for more. It is asking for nutrients, but usually gets more calorie rich and nutrient poor commercially prepared “food”.

This is how you become overweight. Your body says “feed me”, and you cannot resist that command. The correction that is neededis this: eat only nutrient (not calorie) rich foods. Or else you will end up with metabolic stress.
