Magnesium
Following up on my previous post, I want to drive my basketball analogy back to health and wellness. The basics of nutrition that I always emphasize to my clients are cleanse, balance and nourish.
Nourishment is an immediate problem if you live in North America. All the soil that is used to grow the food we eat is deficient in many ways. The most detrimental is the fact that our soils are magnesium-deficient. In another time period, perhaps we would’ve naturally had this basic element of nutrition covered without even considering it. Today, we need to be aware of the world around us and get our magnesium through supplements.
Magnesium deficiency is a modern day health problem that I often compare to the problem of scurvy in the 17th century. Sailors that voyaged on wooden ships for long periods of time without vitamin C or any fruits or vegetables for extended periods of time would develop this disease and their teeth would start to fall out. No one at the time attributed this problem to lack of vitamin C, but today we know this was the case.
I expect that we will soon accept that transdermal magnesium supplementation is absolutely necessary to maintain our health.
